This week we managed to finalize all designs related to OSRC (Open Source Remote Control) and prepare our selves for prototyping when the IndieGoGo campaign reaches its goal.

After many sleepless nights and plenty of brain storming we finalized the enclosure design for the system as well as schematic designs. As an example we took already available devices such as Futaba, Spectrum and others and built on that, taking the best features as well as adding our own. As you can see from the mechanical design above, we haven't deviated much from our original concept (seen below). For best expandability as well as additional usage we added 3 SMA connections for features such as GSM, RF as well as Video. Besides having the default set of antennas this gives a possibility of adding an external cable to the device for each function and increasing the range of each signal. Another visible change we made is the outline of the top graphical display. Internally there is a lot of clearance from the actual visible area so we had to push things around as well as leave room for the enclosure walls and other internal features.

Due to mechanical restrictions we did remove some switches, changed the topology of many parts as well as optimized the design. Through some simple yet effective mechanics we managed to incorporate the locking mechanism for the removable lower display module (the dark lower part of the device with the buttons and 2 Thumb Sticks) so the whole section can be removed and used by another operator while communicating to the main unit through internally built RF. Self actuated stick mechanisms turned out a lot simpler than we thought, with minimal parts yet functional design which if turned off does not in any way interfere with main controls.

Until we actually raise the necessary funds we shall keep the rest of the designs unpublished. There are many features on the system which no other controller at this point has so it would be a shame to reveal any further designs before we actually have a working prototype in our hands by which time it will no longer matter.
