GizmoMan

There are some things that one must know when using this Gizmo. Please read this description carefully before operating the Gizmo.

As you can see from the image above, there are 4 Dual HCTL-2032 Quadrature decoders on the PCB. That means that up to 8 Quadrature inputs can be decoded.

Although the connection headers already have a description for each pin we shall list them below for reference.

Each HCTL-2032 Decoder has the following connections:

X

1. CHBx

2. +5V

3. CHAx

4. CHIx

5. GND

Y

1. CHBy

2. +5V

3. CHAy

4. CHIy

5. GND

DIP Switch

Each HCTL-2032 has a DIP Switch for controlling the EN1 and EN2 lines by pulling them Low or High (that is ON is High, OFF is low)

Control Header

Each IC has a Control Header named as Com1 - Com4 respectively. These pins are the:

1. OE

2. RSTx

3. RSTy

Common Connections

In order to minimize the number of pins used to control each Quadrature Decoder there are several connections that are common for all 4 IC's:

1. Data 0 - 7

2. SEL1

3. SEL2

4. X/Y

Clock

Also a common Clock is distributed to all 4 IC's. It is set by default to 33MHz and is controlled by the Header named ADJ. In order for the Clock IC (LTC1799CS5) to output 33MHz the DIV pin located on the ADJ header must be pulled LOW and a 3K resistor used. on the SET pin.
